Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are a much-needed part of the hospice philosophy. Whether working in the Advocate Hospice office or spending time with patients, volunteers provide the needed support that ultimately enriches the lives of our patients and their families. If interested, please contact Advocate Hospice at 317-745-5147.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
- Respite/Companionship – Spend time, usually 1 – 2 hours, with the patient. This allows the caregiver a break to attend to other activities. During these visits, volunteers often listen to the patients stories, read to the patient, or engage in the preferred activity of the patient.
- Run Errands – Volunteers can go the grocery store or other places to ease the many responsibilities of the caregiver.
- Office Support – Some volunteers prefer to help by supporting the hospice staff. Volunteers help with mailings and other paper work at the Advocate Hospice Office.
Hospice Training:
In order to prepare all potential hospice volunteers as much as possible, Advocate Hospice offers a thorough Hospice Volunteer Training Program. All candidates are first interviewed and attend an orientation. For those volunteers who wish to work with patients, they will shadow a hospice staff member to get to know the patient and their family. Once a volunteer is matched, a commitment of approximately one to two hours a week is preferred. |
